New Every Day Carry Light - Biolite Powerlite Mini

EDC BioLite PowerLight Mini Review by mikemuonline

I love this light. It serves me well when I’m home, and when I travel about outside on the go whether it’s on my bike, eBike, my Momus electric scooter, or just out for a jog in the evening.

I don’t live in a nice home with modern skylights, giant windows, and nicely lit hallways during most of the day. I don’t like wasting electricity, and try to keep a low energy and carbon waste profile whenever possible. This light helps me see things around the house, in storage, in the garage, and when I’m searching through my camera bags for stuff.  It’s better than a flashlight in that it superslim, and provides a nice diffuse light that I simply clip on my shirt - no dorky headlamp required.

When I leave the house, it also travels with me in an everyday carry bag because it serves a dual purpose as a USB backup battery just in case (1350 maH).  Once it hits early evening, I use it light a flash light, headlamp, or tail-lamp for my bike, etc.

Costs about $50 with tax.

*I’m not sponsored in any way BioLite, and I purchased this with my own money.  But if you click on any of my links and make a purchase, I receive a small percentage which goes towards hosting this site.  Thank you!

Keyport Releases Keyport 3 and Hub to Kickstarter

New Keyport 3 in person at CES 2016

I just saw them yesterday at CES showing off their new, more compact, metal Keyport version 3 that was just released on Kickstarter.  Its more compact, sleeker, and has bluetooth keytracking capability (with TrackR tech), as well as a refined knife option.

I've been using my Keyport version 2 as an EDC item and its been working very well.  They listened to their customers and made version 3 even better with almost everything I'd want.

Super Slim Battery Pack from Paick

With CES around the corner I'm looking forward to some new portable power battery packs for my EDC.  Paick is going to introduce this fancy slim battery pack, which is actually available for sale right now for $39.99!

It has no buttons because its touch sensor based, plus the ports are hidden till you release them as shown in the picture.  While I haven't had any problems with exposed USB ports with my portable battery packs, I can see how it would be beneficial to the person who is always outdoors.

$39.99 special right now is a good deal for something this slim, but I have doubts as to its ability to fully charge my iPad 3rd gen.  Guess someone (maybe me) will have to try it and find out.

Press release here.

New Entry into Digital Pens on Regular Paper - Equil Jot

Equil JOT Smart Pen for iOS, OSX, Windows

I admit to only finding out about this morning; and only because I have been browsing Amazon's Black Friday deals.  It looks really impressive in the demonstration and videos.

However, I see a few problems with it for me.

I would tend to want to use this a lot in meetings, and on the go as my Every Day Carry.

Samsung's $299 Smart Watch

Samsung Galaxy Gear Smartwatch comes in 6 colors, all priced at the same launch price of $299.99.  It only works with the Samsung Galaxy Note 3, and the Samsung Galaxy S4 right now, but it's supposedly going to be supported by other Samsung phones (such as the Samsung Galaxy Note 2) in the coming weeks.

Specifications and details directly on Samsung's Galaxy Gear for Note 3 site here.

Honestly, I wasn't all that interested in the watch, partly based on some early reviews.

Arc Notebook - Update On What I Use

Yes, I have been using the Arc notebook system ever since I found the arc holepunch at Staples - that was the missing piece in the whole puzzle for me.  Since I play a lot of roles as an IT consultant and HIT consultant its great to be able to move pieces from one notebook to another as necessary.

This video shows my full size Arc notebook, (and what Staples Arc accessories I have in it) which I carry to board meetings, regular meetings, and just about everywhere in my ThinkTank Urban Disguise 60 bag.  The pen I keep attached is a Cross Tech 3 Multifunction Pen.  It's cheap and practical and more importantly, it fits the loop.  However, I typically use other pens and the Cross is just my 'backup.'
